family

Founded in 1985, Camp K9 is owned and operated by Lori and Duncan Campbell. Lori had always loved animals and always imagined she would one day be caring for them. Sure enough, after spending some time training dogs and holding obedience classes in her home, she and Duncan took a chance and purchased what has now become Madison's premier pet boarding facility. Within a year, this small "hobby" for Lori had turned into a business: Camp K9 had become so busy that Lori was having to turn some pet owners away. An addition was built (the building that now houses the Waggin' Tails suites, as a matter of fact!) and by the end of 1987 Duncan had quit his old job to dedicate his time to the new booming business.

Camp K9 continued to grow, and so did the Campbell family. Lori and Duncan welcomed their eldest daughter, Kristyn, who arrived just in time to see the facility's second addition (what has become the Badger Rooms) completed. Another daughter, Meghan, arrived in 1989, and still the expansion continued. By 1997, a third addition had been completed and a doggie day camp had been started.

office

Today, Camp K9 serves hundreds of pet owners in the Madison area, providing a safe and stimulating environment for pets while their owners are away. Its staff has grown to 18, with the Campbell daughters helping out as well. Over 26 years later, Lori and Duncan's facility is as popular as ever: not bad for a dream that started with only an old house, a few kennels and a love for animals!

Testimonial

Our first dog NEVER went to a kennel (heaven forbid!!), but 25 years ago, when we decided that once in a while the family would go somewhere the dog couldn't, we found Camp K9, and we have happily used their services ever since.

We started when the kennels were in the lower portion of their house, and have been amazed that great expansion could occur yet the personal touch was never lost. When that first dog, our English Setter, Maisie, got elderly, had trouble walking, and had "accidents", we would return to pick her up and find her in the office area, on a cushion, drying off from needing to be bathed, and the only comment from the staff was what a sweet dog she was... no reference to the extra work involved.

Now we bring three noisy, rambunctious beagles to the B&B on an almost monthly basis (gotta see those grandkids). We need extra help getting them and their gear in and out, occasionally ask that they be given medication, request nature walks, listen to them howl as we leave, and all we ever hear is how cute they are, not how much trouble they are. That's why we stick with CAMP K9!!! You are great, and we appreciate all you do for us.
